Dealing with Leaking Pipes and Other Problems

Welcome to my blog. My name is Richard and this is my new blog. In this blog, I will be discussing the various types of DIY work you can carry out in your home to keep its plumbing system in top shape. I will also be detailing the situations when you should call in an emergency plumber. Until a few years ago, I didn't know a thing about plumbing but all that changed when a pipe began to leak in my home. The plumber was great and he passed on some great advice which I would like to share via this page. Enjoy!

5 Chores That Are Easier When You Install a Water Softener

Many household tasks are more difficult when you only have hard water to work with. From washing dishes to cleaning your clothes, many chores get easier when your home is equipped with a water softener. Take a look at these five chores that are easier with soft water, and then contact a local domestic plumbing service to schedule water softener installation.

1. Cleaning Bathroom Fittings

Magnesium and calcium compounds exist in large amounts in hard water. When you use hard water to clean bathroom fittings, these minerals combine with the cleaning products to form a powdery residue. This residue remains on bathtubs, shower stalls and taps, making your bathroom appear less clean.

Soft water contains much lower levels of minerals. That means you can use it to achieve a sparklingly clean appearance for your bathroom fittings.

2. Washing Dishes

The same scum that hangs around on bathroom fittings also forms on glassware and crockery if you wash them in hard water. You might already have noticed that your glasses appear cloudy when you remove them from the dishwasher.

When you use soft water to clean your glasses and plates, they will appear much shinier. The most convenient way to make soft water available for dishwashing is to contact a local plumbing service and ask them to install a water softener in your home.

3. Laundry

Hard water can damage your clothes. The powdery mineral residue that forms when clothes are washed in hard water damages fibres and makes fabrics look faded and dull. Some people's skin becomes irritated when they wear clothes washed in hard water. Soft water is the best option to protect your favourite outfits.

4. Shopping

Many people notice that they need to use much smaller amounts of cleaning products once they switch the water supply in their home from hard to soft. You should need to buy soap, shampoo, laundry detergent and bathroom cleaning products much less often. As a result, you can save money and enjoy lighter and less frequent trips to the store.

5. Making Hot Drinks

Even making tea is easier when your home has a supply of soft water. If you use an electric kettle, you might have noticed that hard water leaves scaly residue on the heating element, which can make your tea flavourless and unpleasantly gritty. These mineral deposits also reduce the lifespan of your kettle. A water softener protects your kettle and makes it easier for you to make a delicious cup of tea.
